December 20th - Still Recovering

Hmm, I seem to have let my posting lapse beyond the point where I could comfortably explain the delay.

So, I suppose an uncomfortable explanation is in order.  After the mad dash that was November, I needed some time to rest, properly register the impact of what I'd done, and in my own way* calculate next steps.  I've come to realise putting together a piece I'm comfortable sharing takes alone time, and with the size of the project I'd like to unleash/share how little sense it makes to maintain a blog that boils down to "I'm writing!  Trust me!" every couple of days.

It's looking more and more like directed writing exercises are the way to go.  A few paragraphs every week on topics culled from the far corners of the Internet or books, or whatever, to get me in the habit of keeping this thing alive in those spaces between Really Important Updates.  This blog was, after all, intended to give you a glimpse into my exercises in writing.  Given the time and effort involved in the bigger projects, perhaps windsprints will be a more satisfying read.

For now, though, I'm going to go back to ruminating, and more importantly reorganising the home office into a proper writing space.  Oh and that whole celebrating the holidays thing.  Look for a post at the end of next week.  I'll try to close off the year in style, and we'll see where next year takes me.

* If you're reading this and you know me in real life, you'll understand.  After a longish period of apparently complete inactivity, one day I wake up and I've...written a novel.  I'm not sure anyone knew I was writing my first manuscript until it was 3/4 done.

December 1st

This post isn't going to have a lot to it.  I made it through November (and won my first NaNo), and I'm still in recovery mode.  That was something else, let me tell you.

Anyway, I have 50k worth of story, that I think needs at least another 20k words, possibly more, to flesh out properly.  Now that I can rest a little and take stock of what I've got, I'm going to do a bit of reconnaissance and deconstruct a couple of my own favourites to see how they were put together.  I may share some of my "discoveries" in here, or perhaps not.

Any way, this means I may move down to a less frequent posting schedule until I have more content to post.  Alternatively, I may go out and search for writing exercises that I could post here.  We'll see.  I do want to continue to put stuff up here, though, it's just a matter of deciding on appropriate content.
